Day 21 Afternoon “High Tea” White Tea

Relax with friends & this lovely blend.

All organic: White tea, peach pieces, apricot pieces, marigold petals, pear essence, love, gratitude.

https://liagriffith.com/felted-partridge-in-a-pear-tree/

Low Caffeine. Steep 1 tsp in just-below-boiling-water. 3-5 minutes.

HW:

I don’t really get the whole Christmas feel with this. It was delicious and I wish I had a tall glass of this over ice while I sit next to my pool. I mean, I live in Florida, so it’s basically pool weather 9 months out of the year.

Briefly, white tea is picked before the tea leaves unfurl, and they still have little white hairs, and that is where they get the name. White tea is very delicate in taste. I have found that mostly when this tea is used, it’s blended with stronger flavors that usually overpower the tea’s actual character.

White tea Chinese silver needle – just an example of dried white tea leaves

It also brews up light in color. Where black tea is dark, and green tea is light green, white tea is more a golden hue.

In this cup, the peach is very present and strong. The other flavors are second to this, and the tea is lost. Which isn’t bad, but if you’re here for tea, you’re going to get a cup of peach flavored water.

I really enjoy peaches, and it is always summer for me.

Hipster Wife’s Christmas

This tea is enjoyable but doesn’t feel like it belongs in a Christmas narrative.

It gets 4 peaches for summer fun and 3 for a Christmas blend.

I actually like it when we disagree…

I want to drink this with a toasted slice of panettone. The peachy flavour will be the perfect compliment to the traditional Italian ‘fruit cake’.

GO SEE RETURN OF SKYWALKER…. AND BRING TISSUES….

I’m back to the dried apricots here. Love them. Peaches (while not a favourite summer fruit of mine) are lovely baked or canned or stewed, or dried. Dried fruits always invoke winter and Christmas to me.  Spiced pears and candied pears are also Christmassy. I’m totally feeling the holiday vibe here.

I love white tea. While I can take or leave green tea, white tea is special. The delicate flavour, especially when blended well, is a tiny bit of joy upon my tongue.

I woke stupid early this morning to go with friends to watch the sunrise at America’s Stonehenge in New Hampshire. We had never been before. It was cold, but so worth it. We all want to go back at different times of the year. If you are in the area, you should visit.

We were in a gazebo on a hill. The fence is around the Sacrificial rock and some cool stone structures.

This tea gets 5 out of 5 pear trees.  Delightful! And a wonderful way to warm up after a snowy solstice morning walk in New Hampshire.

Five pears from Viking Wife!

Day 20 Cinnamon Apricot Herbal Tea

Maybe the best thing is to pour a cup of tea and relax

Cinnamon chips, apricot pieces, apple pieces, calendula, apricot essence, love, gratitude

I saw Rise of Skywalker last night with my other BFF and my 16 year old godson. Two grown ass 40 somethings held each other and wept so hard.

HW: I loved watching this steep. The cinnamon was very strong and I loved it. I haven’t really tasted apple and apricot in other blends this calendar but as this brewed I was able to catch more of their aroma. It was very pleasing, one of those blends you wish your whole house could smell like.

Right off the bat I feel this is very Christmassy.

The first sip I was in love. The spiciness of the cinnamon was tempered nicely by the apple and apricot sweetness.

cinnamon chips

It was a soothing cuppa and it was much needed after a lonely day. *My sister and niece have returned to California.*

I would give this 5 cinnamon chips outta 5.

This mug was a gift from Hipster Wife’s son, my other godson.

I am always a bit leery of cinnamon teas and tisanes because they aren’t gentle on my tummy. I am so glad this cup proved me wrong!

Dried apricots are a life-long favourite of mine. Some of my earliest childhood Christmas memories are of getting ‘ears’ in my stocking. Chocolates? Yeah! Orange in the toe… whatever weird traditions.  Dried apricots? HELL TO THE YEAH, SANTA!

Scene: Christmas morning some time in the 80’s…

Mom: Did you like the new underwear Santa brought you?

Me (mouthful of dried apricots): yeah. Thank you, Santa. (looks to ceiling to thank Santa because the younger sibs don’t know yet.)

Mom: Why do you like dried ears?

Me (unable to explain how the tart and sweet, tough and tender please so many of my senses and make me happy)… Um… they’re good.

Turkish apricots

Side note – if you are a former, current, or future lover, I may or may not refer to your ears as apricots and nibble them.

I blame my mother.

Someone recently made me mince meat pies (with actual meat and without). I’d never had one before. He used dried fruits – and the dried apricots made me especially happy.

I love seeing calendula in blends. It’s a happy flower. We’ve covered it before, so my inner herbalist will spare you. This time.

At the end of the cup, the apple makes this whole experience very smooth and satisfying.

5 out of 5 dried apricots for sure!

R2 approves this cup of tea

Day 19 Eggnog Black Tea

I can’t find mine!!! – VW

It’s one of the teas specially blended for the Advent Calendar. Ingredients are black tea, nutmeg, cinnamon chip, flavor essences.

My wonderful Hipster Wife drank hers, then lost her envelope, so she messaged our friends at Plum Deluxe for the ingredients. Thank you PD for responding!

Viking Wife is currently moving, and she could not find her day 19 envelope.

In true Viking Wife fashion, this week I moved in a snow storm. Snow, sleet, rain, hail… two friends of mine and I took apart my chicken and duck coop in this terrible weather and reassembled it at my new house. I lost envelope 19 weeks ago. We were hoping I’d find it when I moved. Nope. I suspect my cat Persephone stole it. She does things like steal iolite stones or plays with plastic dinosaurs instead of catnip toys. And she likes certain ingredients in teas. Vervain, oat straw, hops, dragon fruit just to name a few.

So… Dear Readers it appears it is only you and I. *makes weird winky face*

Dear Readers, she’s flirting with you.

Fun fact: I didn’t know anything about eggnog, and now that I do, I may never drink it again. This section was written after my review because I was curious. Well, curiosity has once again made me fearful of researching stuff on google. *shudders*

I once looked up eggnog recipes in my youth. I noped the fuck out of drinking this dren eons ago. Thanks anyway. – VW

Apparently, what we drink today is like milknog. Because the FDA doesn’t want us to die.

The following is an eggnog recipe penned by George Washington. That’s right, our POTUS numba 1! I wonder if this is why he had no teeth.

POTUS Numba 1

One quart cream, one quart milk, one dozen tablespoons sugar, one pint brandy, 1/2 pint rye whiskey, 1/2 pint Jamaica rum, 1/4 pint sherry—mix liquor first, then separate yolks and whites of eggs, add sugar to beaten yolks, mix well. Add milk and cream, slowly beating. Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture. Let set in a cool place for several days. Taste frequently.

I’m kinda drunk just reading that. I am positive that VW is gonna throw up a little when she reads this. Btw when he says eggs, he means 1 dozen. (Fuck you liver and arteries. What have you ever done for me? Besides, keep me alive.)

WTactualF? This is a drink people consumed?? Did they think the mass quantity of alcohol would kill potential salmonella? When was salmonella discovered?

There is a considerable debate where this drink came from. But best they *those scholars who have decided to argue over where this beverage came from* can agree its from 1700 Britain. Once called a posset. A hot milky ale drink. Mmm beer milkshakes. *dies* Wiki actually says its a punch. I must be so Americanized because when I think punch, I think fruity and iced. Not filled with booze and eggs.

None of this is making me feel better about eggnog. – VW

Legit Reader Friends, I stopped researching because this is going to end up like Lapsang. I will probably never drink eggnog again. It is now officially EGGNOT.  Merry Christmas.

Legit. I typed eggnot earlier.

Tea Review *Written BEFORE research*

Oh right… this is a tea blog…

This tea was a crazy little blend. I wasn’t sure what it was doing. I was completely prepared to not like it.

It’s not that I hate eggnog. Is it eggnog or egg nog? I never remember. So, I like precisely one small cup of eggnog at Christmastime. If I don’t get it, I am perfectly fine with it. I feel like eggnog is one of those things like fruit cake. You can go years and not need it, but once you succumb to it, it’s a pleasant taste reminder of Christmases past.

I did not care for this tea straight. I added a little bit of sugar, and it was still, eh.

But once I added some half and half, it was like magic. The tea was suddenly comforting, and the cream really added a lot to the flavors.

So without milk and sugar, I would give this tea 2 nogs. But with milk and sugar, it gets a solid 4 nogs.

George W recipe taken from this article: https://time.com/3957265/history-of-eggnog/

Day 18 Candied Orange Green Tea

Sip a cup of sweet kindness

Green tea, orange peel, safflower, orange essence, love, gratitude

My tiny tree on my desk. I change the lights and decorations every month.

I am really looking forward to this. We presume HW will not like it.

The orange scent is super faint. I do not detect anything vaguely sweet in the aroma. Steeped it smells like green tea. Okay, let’s sip…

Yes. Orange. Okay. It’s a green tea with orange.

While i don’t dislike green tea at Hipster Wife levels, this cup is not working for me. It’s light, it’s barely orange, it’s not impressive. Am I so used to mass quantities of black tea that green doesn’t do it for me?  Yet I blend so many straight herbal teas from my own apothecary. I adore the light and subtle flavour of flowers and fruits and herbs.

I’m just not all that into this cup. It’s like a date. Cute when you meet him, you want to like him, but the kiss leaves you wondering how badly he’ll take it when you tell him this just is not working for you.

For staying on point for advent, I’ll give this cup 3 out of 5 oranges.

VW is going to be shocked. I was, in fact, shocked.

But I legit enjoyed this tea.

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH MY HIPSTER WIFE? I’M BLAMING FOOTBALL.

I think that green tea gets worse treatment than other teas. Let me explain this rationale.

Usually, I find green tea in bags. It’s broken into small dried pieces that are slowly turning into dust. Cheap low-quality green tea is a sad fact of the tea world. I can’t count how many times I have ordered hot tea at a restaurant and gotten crappy green tea. My dislike of it has been borne over years and years.

The last straw I have to admit was the calendar last year.

VW here to remind everyone that the Adagio calendar felt like mostly green tea last year. It wasn’t. But it felt that way.

One of the things I have noticed about the PD tea blends is how their leaves like unfurl and look beautiful in my tea strainer. The green tea in this tea looks lovely. I can taste this delightful light tea taste that isn’t stale or not present at all.

I found the orange very strong in this with a secondary sweet after note. I didn’t add sugar or cream to this and just enjoyed it as it was.

I was utterly taken by surprise by how much I like this. Thank you, Plum Deluxe, for helping me find my way back to green tea. Even if it’s still on a very trial basis.

4 complete shocks outta 5.

How Viking Wife feels about Hipster Wife’s review

Day 17 Oregon Breakfast Black Tea

Like a beautiful sunrise, celebrate today with this rich, bright cup of love

All organic: black tea, honeybush tea, orange peel, hazelnut essence, love, gratitude

https://www.wallpaperup.com/253752/sunrise_Oregon_range_crater_lake.html

I’m steeping this cup at my desk, my last working day before taking 2.5 weeks off to move and for the holidays. Yes, I’m writing this blog in advance. This sort of magic doesn’t happen on the daily, folks. Anyway, as this is steeping I’m thinking “I’ve smelled this before.”

It’s the honeybush and hazelnut. It’s reminding me of Day 3.

I’ve never been to the west coast. So I can’t say how this tea may be relevant to Oregon.

I doubt these pioneers ever heard of honeybush. Lucky pioneers.

When I lift this cup, all I can smell is honeybush. Gods, it’s terrible. I really don’t like honeybush. But it tastes like a hazelnut black tea so… *shrug*

I’m starting to feel like Hipster Wife last year with our Adagio advent calendar. There was so much green tea in there I thought she was going to stab someone. Imma get stabby over honeybush.

Does this fit the holiday spirit?

This tea fits the modern Christmas spirit.

Yeah. They put in the orange peel and hazelnut. It’s on point for advent. Do I like it? Not especially. Do I think Hipster Wife will like it?  Yes. LOL.

Overall I’m giving this 3 out of 5 Portlandias.

This isn’t a breakfast tea to me. Sorry Oregon but you’re kinda boring. The honeybush ruins the breakfast thing for me. I want my breakfast tea to be a blending of black tea. This misses the mark by a long shot.

It doesn’t taste horrible. It has a pleasant hazelnut taste that works well with cream. It’s an enjoyable cup of tea. I don’t want to marry it, or run off on a wagon trail with it. I feel like we’ve had this tea before and in this calendar- which isn’t a good thing.

SWEET BABY SANTA, WE’VE AGREED AGAIN

Day 16 Holiday Party Blend Black Tea

A tea tipple for festive moments.

Black tea, orange peel, apple pieces, mango pieces, raspberry leaf, raspberries, mango/pomegranate essences, love, gratitude.

To begin with, Hipster Wife can’t drink this. She is allergic to mango. But she has family visiting, so I believe we will have another guest blogger for this cup!

Thus far I have touted the uterine toning benefits of raspberry leaf tea. I have my tubes tied, so pregnancy is not a concern for me anymore. But I wanted to take a moment to mention that some herbalists and doctors think that women who are trying to become pregnant or are in the early months of pregnancy should not drink raspberry leaf tea. Please, as always, discuss herbal teas and supplements with your herbalist/doctor/midwife.

On to today’s tea!

shooting in my office doesn’t offer much variety. Here we see my pashmina being used to create ambiance for the black tea

It smells lovely. Fruity and warm. Dried fruits are such a winter holiday staple in baking. Growing up I feel like my family always had crystal dishes of nuts, dried apricots, fresh oranges, and imported Italian candies around at the holidays.

This black tea (Assam? We don’t know because PD treats the ingredients list like a trade secret) leaves a dry mouth feel. Why don’t they always tell us what type of black tea they are using? So frustrating. Not sure what the intent of adding raspberry leaves is here.  They don’t add a fruit flavour.

I could not share this cup with either my daughter or Hipster Wife. My offspring is allergic to apples, and Hipster Wife is allergic to mangoes.

This calendar continues to be on point for the holiday season. While not a tea I’d rave about, this is a good one.  I give this cup 4 out of 5 Black Tie Holiday Cocktail Dresses.

Lady Grey Moonlight trying on a dress she bought 26 years ago for a radio station Christmas party (I used to intern at a Boston radio station)

Since drinking this tea would cause me great distress. I have opted to force my sister to drink this instead.

My niece is all green tea, all the time. Not a huge fan of black tea. So my sister was strong armed into this. I mean asked nicely. NICELY.

Sis: Do I have to do this? *Drinks mimosa and eyes me suspiciously.*

Me: Yes. If I drink it… I’ll die. You don’t want my death on your hands do you?

Sis: For fucks sake drama queen – just give it to me.

VW note: Hipster Wife is indeed a drama queen.

So I took a sniff of the bag before I dumped it into the strainer. I didn’t really get a mango scent. It wasn’t overly powerful. This baggy did not have any mango pieces in it either. I was tempted to give it a whirl. But, after the events of day 4 and the devils bush I decided no.

Fuck the devil’s root and it’s itchy, stop us breathing ways.

NAY! Nay I say!

Me: Do you want sugar or milk in this?

Sis: Don’t you have some weird three taste thing you do?

Me: Well, yes it’s basically science for me. But you’re a guest.

Sis: I’m a captive. I can’t believe you won that last round with Moist Pussy Goodies. (The category was the worst name for a cat food.)

HW: We were playing Quiplash 2. I STRONGLY SUGGEST EVERYONE PLAY THIS AT YOUR HOLIDAY PARTIES.

Quiplash

Me: Haha we kinda shared a brain though cause your Yummy Pussy Vittles was close. Now drink this tea. I added a little sugar. I know how you take your tea.

Sis: It tastes like tea.

Me: Is it good tea?

Sis: I am not really tasting mango in this. Just drink it yourself and do your funny tea thing.

Me: Do you taste anything orange?

Sis: Eh. Yes? It’s not very strong. It just tastes like strong black tea. There are hints of fruit, but nothing really mango-y or orangey.

Me: Do you like it? Would you drink it again?

Sis: I would. In the morning, or late evening. Not in the middle of adult beverages and games.

Me: So not at a holiday party?

Sis: My kind of party? No. Yours? Probably.

I’ve not met HW’s sister, but after this interview, I feel I could party with her.

So this a solid yes if you’re gonna have a swingin happy tea holiday party. If not.. Well save it for when you get home from the party.

Day 15 Rejuvenation Blend Herbal Tea

Slow down for an emotional & mental boost

All organic: ginger root, lemon peel, apple pieces, liquorice root, rose petals, love, gratitute

A lemon ginger blend! Lovely. Good for the tummy. Soothing, warming. I am looking at the bag and do not see any evidence of rose petals.

Ginger root is used for motion sickness, morning sickness, upset stomach, gas, IBS, and other issues where medications can make a patient nauseated.

Fresh ginger root

I love grating fresh ginger into ginger snap cookies.  Throw a little black pepper in there and woooooah mama, you’ve got a nice cookie. I should make those again…

Licorice root is soothing to the stomach. It can repair the stomach lining in cases of food poisoning, heartburn and stomach ulcers. It is excellent in blends for bedtime (think chamomile, valerian, lavender). There are warnings against ingesting large amounts of licorice daily. So don’t drink a gallon a day. And don’t overdo it on the black jelly beans, k?

Licorice root. These suckers are super tough.

I have often found that lemon ginger teas (commercially prepared) are very powerful. Too much ginger in my surgically altered stomach cause irritation. (Go figure) The apple and licorice are the perfect foil to the spice and acidity.

Day after day we open these purple envelopes and find a tea that fits the season. That is so delightful. Plum Deluxe is hitting it out of the park in all the ways – even when we don’t like the blends.

Yet another herbal tea I have all the ingredients for in my home apothecary. But if you don’t keep jars of loose herbs, or dry your own ginger and fruits, you should buy this. You should get it as a gift for friends. Because this is most excellent.

***

My niece is visiting from California and when I saw this tea I was like… whoa. This tea is so AGG!

I am not a hip Californian teen so I had to look this up. Gag me out the door with a spoon makes more sense.

So I brewed her this cuppa and she enjoyed it while playing Cards Against Humanity.

Me: Well what do you think?

AGG: The lemon. It’s like right here. *points to her heart.* I feel it.

Me: Is that good?

AGG: Yes. The ginger is really good too. I always use fresh ginger but I like this too. *The ginger in this tea is dried.*

Me: So you like it? Is it a Christmas tea?

AGG: Yes, and no. It’s more an everyday for me.

Me: Would you marry it?

AGG: What am I, seven years old?

Me: Haha ok sorry, would you have this again?

AGG: Yes. *Takes another sip* I am not tasting the licorice in this.

Me: What about the apples or rose petals?

AGG: Maybe? But not very much.

Me: How many ginger slices would you give this tea outta 5?

AGG: 4. It definitely needs more ginger.

So there we have it dear blog readers. I wish I could’ve had the foresight to include some of the CAH that were being tossed around during this, because it was HILARIOUS! Also very tasteless. My family are a bunch of weirdos.

Day 14 Caramel Snickerdoodle Dessert Tea

Sweet & spice, full of love.

Green Rooibos, Rooibos, Cinnamon Pieces, BlackBerry Leaf, Safflower, Orange Blossom, Vanilla Essences, Love, Gratitude.

Green rooibos is from the same South African plant as red rooibos. Green rooibos leaves are specially treated to prevent oxidiation, leaving them closer to their natural state.

Red bush or rooibos leaves are bruised and oxidized.  Oxidiation is exposure to oxygen, which brings out the plant’s essential oil and helps the leaves develop their colour and flavour. The more oxidized the rooibos, the redder and sweeter it becomes.

We’ve covered other ingredients in previous posts. So I shan’t bore you.

Technically this is honeybush, but it’s related to rooibos.

I had low hopes for this cup. I like being wrong. This tea tastes like cookies. But without the sugar. It’s ginger bread and brightness. It’s delightful. There is none of the weird tongue coating I get with a normal rooibos.

I normally dislike cinnamon teas. Which is … weird?… because I’m an Aries and I’m supposed to love cinnamon or something. Like an excessive amount of ginger, cinnamon tea will hurt my little pouch and cause me a great deal of discomfort. The struggles of a post weight loss surgery patient. This tea isn’t Slap Me In The Face and Stomach Lining With Cinnamon. The blend tempers the heat of cinnamon.

Sorry to bore you, gentle readers. I’m giving this cup 5 out of 5 snickerdoodles.

I loved this tea. I love snickerdoodles, and I was concerned that I was going to get a doughy weird cookie taste tea.

But somehow, this is a blend of everything that makes a snickerdoodle a yummy cookie.

Cinnamon tea is a huge favorite of mine anyway, but this had a caramel flavor that was done perfectly. None of the burnt sugar taste that is often copied into stuff like this.

After the cinnamon, vanilla is very present. It works well with the caramel and helps bring the brightness of the orange blossom to the front.

I wish I had more of this tea to drink. I actually drank two cups because I enjoyed it so much.

A solid 4 snickerdoodles outta 5

Also… sweet baby Santa Claus… VW and I are agreeing a lot here recently. Is it a Christmas miracle?

Day 13 Reading Nook Blend

A blend of joy. Pairs with creativity, reading & writing, conversation, relaxing

Black tea, Rosebuds, Lavender, Chamomile, Love, Gratitude, Natural Flavor.

The reading nook blend is our signature tea created for enjoying while perfecting some of our dearest passions: reading, writing, and enjoying conversation with friends.  We basically combine 3 different tea concepts into one: rose black tea, lavender black tea, and black chamomile tea.

One needs a touch of caffeine to keep the conversation flowing, the pages turning, or the pen on the move, so we start this blend with a wonderful cream black tea. We then added rosebuds for creativity and sustenance, lavender for flavor and aroma, and top it off with a bit of chamomile which adds a calming balance to it all. Customers often tell us this is our prettiest tea and it certainly has the top reviews!

Hipster Wife and I are also passionate about reading, writing and chatting! Will we like this one?

First sniff reminds me of my French Earl Grey that I blended over at Adagio. And for reasons I’ve never understood – rose and lavender in tea smells like chocolate to me.

Lavender and chamomile are two herbs I have always had on hand. I used to make my daughter a tea from them to relax her before bedtime. Chamomile is also a good tummy soother.

I don’t know what black tea they have used here. It’s smooth, like an Assam.

The site suggests honey. That is the obvious choice for anything with chamomile, as the flowers add a natural honey-like flavour to whatever they are in.

I like this one. How much do we want to bet Hipster Wife hates it? I’m giving it 5 out of 5 reading nook throw pillows.

HW: It is currently in my teacup of destiny as we speak. We shall see.

Hipster Wife wants to teach Divination at Hogwarts one day.

Friday the 13th has me feeling kinda Madame Leota. (“On the tenth day of Christmas, my Ghoul Love gave to me: Ten telling tea leaves, that swirl with secrets yet to share.”)

So I pulled out my teacup of destiny for this review.

I love this teacup and I love how the tea looks as it’s unfurling in my cup.

Immediately I could smell the lavender and rosehips.

*shuffles through bag* There are no rosehips. Only rose buds.

I’m not only a minor herbalist, but I am also a belly dancer. No hips were used in the making of this tea. – VW

First sip is joy. I love lavender and it’s probably second to coconut in my favorite things to smell.

PD really markets these teas usually well. This is one of those. It would suit a moment of time parceled for yourself. I could see myself working on my novel late at night with this in my mug. The flavor is bright and strong as all good black teas should be. I agree with VW that this black tea is smooth and I also think it’s an Assam.

I want more and I’m so glad I have enough for another cup.

If you like lavender and black tea this would be a great cup for you. I think I would love this blend more if it had bergamot so I could make an instant London Fog lol. It is really difficult to use lavender well. Too little and it’s lost. Too much and it tastes like soap. This blend is well done. I don’t really catch the chamomile as much as I’d like, but its present as a soothing afternote.

I can’t wait to ask my teacup a question and have it tell me my future.

5 cups of fortune out of 5.

Day 12 French Vanilla Chai Black

“A winter-time pick me up.”

Black tea, cinnamon chips, anise seed, clove, cardamom, French Vanilla essence.

I can’t find this on their site. Yet another calendar exclusive?  I did search under both black tea and chai tea. (BTW their search isn’t great. Or I’m far too fussy and don’t like the interface. That’s totally possible.) {Looked a second time, can’t find it.}

First thing we need to discuss is “French vanilla”. What do we know about vanilla? To begin with, it is grown in Madagascar, Indonesia, Tahiti, and Mexico. Vanilla can only grow near the equator. It is a member of the orchid family. It can also be very expensive.

It’s exotic, expensive, delicious, and has flowers. Next time anyone tells you that you are “vanilla” turn that around into a compliment. I want to be exotic and expensive and delicious. Hells yeah.

To the French bit. Makes it sound really sophisticated, right? Like some dude in a pencil mustache and black beret grew it along the Seine. No, my friends. Let’s see what the Chicago Tribune wrote about it… and it has to do with ice cream

A: Vanilla bean varieties are often named for where they’re grown, like Madagascar, Tahiti and Mexico. That’s not the case with French vanilla. The name refers not to a vanilla variety but to the classic French way of making ice cream using an egg-custard base.

Craig Nielsen, CEO of Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, said the eggs give French vanilla a “richer, deeper note” than what’s found in plain vanilla.

Everything I found regarding “French vanilla” has to do with ice cream. So I’m not sure why PD christened this tea in this manner.

On to the tea!

I am not sure what I was expecting here. I have been jaded against cardamom, so I always go into blends with some trepidation. This is really delightful. The spices are perfection.

I have no stream of consciousness. I have no herbal wisdom to impart. I feel like I’m letting you down.

This is a really good cup of tea.

I don’t even want to try this with a splash of dairy. It would ruin it for me.

Damn, PD. This is lovely.  I’m giving this 5 vanilla beans.

***

This tea was boring as fuck.

Perfectly serviceable tea. I wanted this to be more like day 1 and it was just lacking the oomph.

Chai tea should have a spicy stand out flavor and this lacked that. The vanilla I think tempered it way too much.

VW here… the vanilla was EXACTLY what I needed. I’m not a huge chai fan. This tea is brilliant.

I liked Full Moon much better and this made me feel like there was no moon. Just a dark winter night without stars.

I would serve this to friends and not feel bad. But I wouldn’t buy it. I would buy the other chai that PD has.

3 stars for being boring.
